Overview

This project involved redesigning a mobile app that helps groups split restaurant bills through secure peer-to-peer payments. Based on feedback from existing users, the app needed UI improvements to enhance the overall experience while maintaining its minimal design approach. Working in a design team with 4 other designers, 1 project manager, and 1 quality assurance manager, I focused on enhancing critical user flows including login, home screen, and bill creation features. My redesign process included creating user stories, wireframes, and high-fidelity screens that improved the overall user experience without losing the app's straightforward design philosophy

Problem

Based on user feedback, the existing Splyt Pay app had several usability problems that frustrated users trying to split bills with friends. The app suffered from inconsistent UI elements throughout the interface, confusing history features that made it hard for users to track previous transactions, and a disorganized moderator tool that complicated the bill-splitting process for bill moderators

Solution

I designed a more intuitive and consistent app experience that solved the key usability issues. The redesigned interface featured improved consistency across all screens through a comprehensive UI style guide with clear typography and color systems, a streamlined and user-friendly moderator tool that simplified bill management for bill moderators, and enhanced history features that made transaction tracking much clearer for all users. My approach included competitive analysis of leading apps like Tab, Splitwise, and Deferit to ensure industry best practices, along with improved accessibility throughout the entire app experience

OUTCOME

The Splyt Pay redesign successfully addressed all identified usability issues while maintaining the app's clean, minimal aesthetic that users appreciated. My design contributions, including the chosen minimalist UI direction and key screen designs, provided the client with a comprehensive solution that improved user experience across all core functions. The project delivered complete design specifications including user flows, high-fidelity screens, interactive prototypes, developer handoff documentation, and a component library that set the foundation for consistent future development and enhanced user satisfaction
